  Spanish, although English is spoken in most of the tourist cities.

  Dominican peso - shown as RD$. Most stores and restaurants in tourist areas will accept US$ as well as the local currency.
• Gratuity Tips
  Restaurants typically also charge a 10% service charge, but wages in this sector are very low and most employees rely on extra tips to survive. Generally customers should pay an additional 5-10%, especially if the service has been good.
• Taxes and VATS
  The government charges a 5% extra tax on hotel rooms, and an 8% sales tax on food and drinks.
• Banks, Credit Cards, ATMs
  There are numerous ATMs in the DR. You will find many located in tourist areas. Most major credit cards accepted.
• Clothing Requirements
  Pack like you would for all tropical climates, but make sure women have at least one casual/elegant summer outfit and men should have a pair of slacks with a short sleeve shirt for fine dining establishments or entering churches. It's recommended to wear natural fibers such as cotton and linen for ease and comfort from the heat.
