Africa
Africa
Explorers Dream of Africa from Morocco, the "land of the furthest setting sun" to Cape Town, one of the world's most beautiful cities. This is the continent that has inspired seasoned travelers and famous filmmakers to say, "I Dream of Africa."
Highlights
Stargazers dream of the hill in the Karoo desert, where Africa's "Giant Eye on the Universe" has been built. Dinosaur lovers dream of a trek to the digs of prehistoric coelacanths, discovered off the coast of South Africa. Historians dream of visiting the fifty ancient pyramids and royal tombs rising from the desert sands at Meroe -- Sudan's best-preserved pyramids, and one of Africa's best kept secrets. Adventure seekers leave the beaten path to explore secret networks of tunnels connecting the huts of the Chagga native people, who preserve their culture on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Connoisseurs of castles and towers dream of the ancient Duwisib Castle and of the eternal Sossusvlei sand dunes, the highest in the world. Nature lovers fulfill their wildest dream on an African safari, from subtropical forests to the sublime isolation of the desert. Whale Watchers dream of following the Whale Route around the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Tantalizing aromas from Tanzania's Spice Island draw food lovers to the slave pits and the spice tours. Wine connoisseurs follow a coastal road from Hermanus to Somerset West, where lunch is served with the world's finest wines. Vacationers slow the holiday pace with romantic floats above the Serengeti and stop, entranced, for views into Africa's natural wonder, Fishriver Canyon, second only in size to the Grand Canyon of Arizona. At it's southern end, active travelers lower themselves into the Ai-Ais, hot springs for a soothing soak.
Geography/Environment
It is hard to do justice to Africa's geography in a paragraph, but expect a splendid safari near the equator in Kenya and Tanzania with the two tallest mountains on the continent, Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro, the later can be climbed by anyone in decent physical condition.
In South Africa the winelands and coastline resemble northern California. South Africa also features deserts and bushveld landscape.
Activities
The top activity for Africa honeymooners is a photo safari in search of the abundant wildlife. Add in hiking, fishing, golf, hot air ballooning, fantastic dining, winery tours, whitewater rafting and you are sure to find honeymoon activities for anyone. Be sure to include at least a few nights in a tented safari camp to experience the sounds of the African bush.
Climate and Weather
Check local weather conditions for your honeymoon destination with your travel professional. It is important to be knowledgeable of the wet and dry seasons, since they affect game viewing while on safari.
