Corn Islands

Corn Islands

The Corn Islands is a forgotten paradise that was long ago a British protectorate and more recently was leased to the United States until 1971 when the lease was terminated. Once a haven for pirates and buccaneers in the 17th century, the Corn Islands are two islands about 50 miles off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. The two islands, Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island are surrounded by white sand beaches with lush tropical folliage and untold numbers of shipwrecks and treasures that still lay scattered along its turquoise shores.
