In fact, tourism has become the second largest industry in the nation, thanks in part to offering the world's surfers some of the best surfing in the Americas. San Juan del Sur, a popular 37-mile stretch of beaches along the Pacific coast well-known among the surfing class.  Another main attraction in Nicaragua for honeymoon couples are the beaches, which are beautiful, quiet and unspoiled.  Starting in January 2013 the nation's first luxury resort, Mukul, is set to open and includes a spa, beach club and golf course among its many amenities.  Ecotourism is also growing rapidly as well as interest in cultural travel along scenic routes where the architecture of cities such as León and Granada can be admired. A Nicaragua honeymoon may not be the first destination that comes to mind, but it will surely be different and every bit as memorable as some of the more popular beach destinations.
