A laid back beach paradise in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen is a Mexican resort town on the Yucatan Peninsula about 45 minutes south of Cancun at the center of the Riviera Maya. The white sand beaches, the clear Caribbean Sea and the ferries to the island Cozumel, which boasts world famous scuba diving, have long lured visitors to Playa . . . what was once a small fishing town. Playa is now a rapidly growing tourist destination of its own that is still compact and easily covered on foot. Walk down the Quinta Avenida - a pedestrian walkway lined with boutiques, hotels, shops, bars, and restaurants. Enjoy the happening nightlife, which lasts through most of the night. Numerous dive shops in Playa offer trips to the offshore reef, which is part of the second largest coral reef system in the world. Cenote diving (in natural freshwater sinkholes) is also a popular tourist activity here. Adrenaline junkies can even sky-dive from Playa. There is plenty to do for honeymoon couples looking for action and plenty of beaches for those yearning to relax . . . a great combination for a memorable honeymoon.
