There are several resorts in the Ixtapa area that are quite romantic thanks to natural surroundings that include lush green mountain back drops and gorgeous ocean blue waters. The gardens around the resorts have an abundance of beautiful flowers and shrubs that add to the romantic ambience. Indoors, you can't beat having an oceanview room where you will witness the sea sparkle and flicker in a variety of different shades of blue. Facing the west, you will see many small islands and virtually every night you will have the most amazing sunsets. The ocean waters are warm, they will invite you to spend the day frolicking in the waves.

Snorkeling is a favorite activity on Ixtapa Island by locals and tourist. I recommend spending the day the way the locals do rather then taking a tour. Taxi's are cheap here, 100 pesos (about 8.00 US) to drive from one end of town to the other. Take a taxi to Playa Linda where there are outdoor vendors selling arts, crafts and local foods along the beach. Walk out to the end of the pier and catch a boat ride over to the Island. On our visit we were greeted by a local man asking about what we wanted to do on the island. We told him we were planning on snorkeling and he not only set us up with gear for the day, he ended up being our beach boy for the duration of our stay that afternoon. He set us up with table, chairs, lounge chair, umbrellas and he served us lunch, beers and soda throughout the day. The snorkel gear was about $8.00 for the day per person. We spent most of the day here and the snorkeling is fantastic. Step into the water, and the fish are right there swimming around your feet. The entire day cost us about $60.00. You can also rent kayaks, jets skis and other water sports here on the island.

There are many activities in the area, ATV tours, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, sailing, golf and more. Ixtapa and its sister city, Zihuatanejo, are a stone's throw from each other. Take a stroll a long the cobblestone streets of Zihuatanejo, spending the early evening shopping, working up the perfect appetite for a delicious traditional Mexican dish, and then hit the nightlife to melt those calories away.

This is an area to which I will return as it's beautiful, charming, clean, safe, and the people are very friendly.
