Secrets Maroma Beach is an all-inclusive, adults only resort located 30 miles south of Cancun, Mexico. All-inclusive packages include dining, premium drinks, non-motorized water sports, activities, entertainment, 24-hour room service, etc. It’s an excellent property for honeymoons, anniversaries or just “enjoying life”.

The location is truly a huge draw for the resort. Without a doubt, Maroma Beach is one of the most pristine beaches in Mexico with its powdery white sand and crystal clear waters. For beach lover’s, this is where you want to be. Due to hurricane Wilma in 2005, many resorts around the Riviera Maya suffered great losses. As a result, the beaches are now protected by sandbags, which although necessary do take away from the beauty of many resort beaches. Maroma beach is not one of them. The view from this beach is truly stunning.

Once you arrive at the resort, you are greeted with an ice cold cloth, a glass of sparkling wine and quick personal service. Check in is very easy as you sit with your personal agent and they explain the resort in as much detail as you want. You are then taken to your room with the bell person and he provides an informative overview of the resort as you pass each place of interest. This serves as an excellent start for your resort vacation..

Our room was beautiful!!! The first thing that we noticed when we opened the door was that it smelled like a spa. This was refreshed everyday we were there. Each room has a four poster king bed, tile floors, entertainment center with a 32-inch flat panel TV, DVD player and includes several premium cable channels. Wireless internet is available and at the time there was no additional charge for any room. The bathroom included a beautiful vanity with drawers to keep all of your belongings out of the way, a Jacuzzi for two, and a separate shower and toilet closet. The bedroom and bathroom were separated by a sheer curtain so you could soak in the Jacuzzi while watching TV. The bathroom also included a speaker so that you could listen to the TV (either shows or music channel) while soaking in the tub. Secrets also included candles around the tub and incense to help you relax. We also had a nice sized sitting area that included a desk, sofa and table. We had a mini-bar in the room which was restocked daily with beer, water and soda (in glass bottles). We were there during a very hot season (August) and although the room temperature was comfortable, it did not get as cool as we had hoped.

One benefit that Secrets touts is the concept of its “secret door”, which is a small compartment in which room service is delivered upon request so you are not disturbed. This is very convenient if you are lying in bed or taking a shower, etc. and want your privacy. You can also place your dirty dishes in the compartment afterwards to keep your room and doorstep tidy. We were told that if your privacy light is on outside, you will never be bothered and they will always use the “secret door”. The concept is really a great idea. However, we tried it three times with no success. They still knocked on the door until we answered. Perhaps this is something they are still working out the kinks on, but again the concept is great. Let’s hope that the execution improves.

Our room had a swim out terrace which we absolutely recommend. The pool is shared with just a few bottom level rooms in the building. There was never another person in the pool while we were there so if you like privacy, this is the way to go. We were able to step out of our room to soak up the sun or plunge into the pool whenever we wanted to. We were able to lie out on our rafts at night while watching the stars and listening to the ocean waves. The only challenging part was stepping inside onto the tile floors while you were all wet without slipping. We conquered this by putting a few towels down on the floor to walk on during the day.

The resort offers several dining options:

Himitsu - A fusion of Pan Asian delicacies
El Patio - Authentic Mexican
Portofino - Italian
Bordeaux - French
Oceana - Seafood
Seaside Grill - Steak & Grilled Specialties
World Café - Continental cuisine, buffet style

For the most part our dining experience was exceptional. At Himitsu, we enjoyed our experience so much that we returned again and requested the same waiter, Damian. Himitsu is well appointed with appropriate décor including two Buddha statues, artwork and comfortable seating. The restaurant offers two experience choices: a la cart or Teppanyaki style. The portion sizes are small, which is great because you will want to try several dishes. The sushi was fresh and prepared very well and they even featured some unique offerings (including banana in the rolls) which was a pleasant surprise.

Daily maid service was very good. They changed our sheets daily and cleaned our room very thoroughly. They left our room refreshed with a spa fragrance each time, which made coming back from lunch or the pool much more invigorating. Although this was all-inclusive, we felt obliged to leave the attendants something every day because they did such an outstanding job. The nightly turndown service was a little “patchy” as we received the service about half of the time, but this definitely was not a deal breaker.
