Maui's best beach
Maui's Kaanapali Beach remains a wonderful honeymoon and destination wedding site. Incredible views, a great long walking beach (or paved path up above beach), great caliber hotels, good bodysurfing, and the ever present "aloha" spirit of the locals. Yes, with all the tourists, that friendly spirit and great service which seems to have disappeared in other destinations, remains here in full force. A great meal at a reasonably priced beach bar/restaurant with views of the dark blue Pacific and the nearby islands of Lanai and Molokai. Close by (couple of miles) is the old whaling port of Lahaina - lots of funky and upscale restaurants and for free entertainment,a diverse and wide display of art and sculpture galleries. Go in March and see the whales breaching. You are surrounded by lush landscaping, beautiful flowers and frequent rainbows from shortlived showers. Lots of golf and tennis. Drive north and leave all hotels for a taste of the wild, go south to over 11,000' to Mt Halekala (with a crater large enough to put Manhattan in) or across the twisty, windy road to Hana (laid back mostly undeveloped Hawaii) or take a thrilling fly-over in a helicopter!
We have been to Maui over 15 times and still love the place.
